ABI announces full line up of speakers for its 2008 Solvency II Conference

The ABI (Association of British Insurers) has confirmed the full line up of speakers for its 2008 Solvency II Conference, ‘Shaping World Class Regulation’, held in association with Towers Perrin. It will take place on 10 June at the Marriott, Grosvenor Square in Mayfair, London.

The conference comes at a crucial time in the development of the Solvency II Directive, which looks at the supervision and regulation of insurance companies. A report, with proposed amendments to the Directive, was issued in March by the European Parliament’s Rapporteur and many insurers are currently taking part in a Europe wide impact study (QIS 4). The day will also be an opportunity for representatives of the forthcoming French Presidency of the EU to set out their views and aspirations for Solvency II.

Key speakers include
. Stephen Haddrill (Director General, ABI)
. Peter Skinner MEP (Rapporteur on Solvency II)
. Sally Dewar (MD, Wholesale markets, FSA)
. Valérie Bros (Head of Financial services, French
Representation in Brussels – French Presidency)
. Karel Van Hulle (Head of Insurance, EC)
. Michaela Koller (Director General, CEA)
. Paul Sharma (Director, Prudential Policy, FSA)

The workshops on the day will cover key strategic issues including the approval of internal models, group supervision and governance/disclosure requirements under the new framework.

Peter Vipond, Director of Financial Regulation and Taxation at the ABI, commented:

“This is an unparalleled opportunity to engage with the leading figures on Solvency II on key strategic and political issues. Those attending will receive practical advice and information on the key issues in Solvency II, ensuring it becomes a world class regulatory regime.”

One of those speaking will be Paul Whitlock, Managing Principal, Head of the Life Insurance Practice, Towers Perrin, who added:

“Solvency II is both a challenge and opportunity for European insurers with the greatest benefits accruing to those firms that position themselves early to take advantage of the coming regulatory change. This is now the time to act.”
