Bird boxes, bee hotels and game burgers the highlight of Young Shots day in NI
Twenty-five young people from across Northern Ireland had a chance to build bird boxes and bee hotels and try pheasant and venison burgers at a young shots activity day run jointly by BASC NI and North Antrim Rifle and Pistol Club (NARPC).
As part of BASC’s educational aims the youngsters were able to try archery, air rifle shooting and rimfire rifle shooting at NARPC’s shooting range outside Ballymoney.
BASC NI director Tommy Mayne said: “With 25 participants, this was our largest group yet and the day went fantastically with a lot of interest in the pheasant butchery and burger making demonstrations.
“As always, the dummy throwing competition proved very popular but more importantly, the day provided a great opportunity for participants to try new outdoor experiences for the first time including some delicious wild game.
“Thanks to Baronscourt Estate for donating the game for the barbecue which went down a treat with children and adults alike.
“A huge thank you to our volunteers from NARPC for once again giving up their free time to ensure that the event ran safely and smoothly.
“Without the support of such committed volunteers, events like this would not be possible.”
