BASC birdbox initiative reaches Parliamentarians

MPs from all parties have accepted a BASC birdbox in an initiative to highlight shooting’s contribution to conservation.

A total of 16 MPs from a range of parties have been visited in constituencies and at conference by BASC political officers to improve engagement and discuss local conservation projects in their areas. Parliamentarians involved in the initiative include both current and shadow Secretaries of State and Ministers, as well as a range of backbench MPs. The BASC-branded birdboxes have been well received by all and highlights BASC’s commitment to both conservation and education.

As well as aiding conservation efforts, the BASC birdbox initiative aims to connect more young people with wildlife by helping them put up their own birdboxes and engage with nature. This year BASC has taken part in several school visits around the country to further our outreach and discuss how shooting and conservation go hand in hand.

Jak Abrahams, BASC political affairs manager, said: “Even in this current political turmoil the MP’s engagement with the BASC birdbox project and the future of our countryside has been hugely encouraging.”

Christopher Graffius, executive director of communications and public affairs, said: “Shooting and conservation are interchangeable, the conservation work undertaken by BASC is vital for the future of our countryside. The support and engagement witnessed from all political parties showcases that our hard work is paying off.”
