Met uncovers new phone-hacking scandal
Six journalists have been arrested in a brand new phone-hacking inquiry, the Metropolitan police announced today.
Unrelated to previous hacking scandals, police said this latest investigation "will be making contact with people they believe have been victims of the suspected voicemail interceptions" in due course.
Those arrested – current and former journalists – are being investigated by police for suspected phone-hacking for the now defunct newspaper the News of the World in 2005-2006.
The arrests were made as part of Operation Weeting after "a further suspected conspiracy to intercept telephone messages" had been identified.
Two of the journalists arrested currently work for The Sun newspaper.
