Mirror group initiates review as media responds to phone-hacking scandal

Concerns over phone-hacking spread from News International to other news organisations today,, after the Trinity Mirror initiated a review of its editorial controls and procedures.

The group, which owns the Daily Mirror, The People and Sunday Mirror, has been the subject of fearsome attacks by predominantly right-wing figures over claims it used phone-hacking to reveal the affair between Sven-Goran Eriksson and Ulrika Jonsson in 2003.

On one particularly dramatic moment, Tory MP Louise Mensch was forced to defend herself against several angry attacks from former Mirror editor Piers Morgan live on CNN.

“We can confirm that we’re conducting a review of editorial controls and procedures,” a spokesperson for the company said.

According to the Financial Times, the review is being conducted by legal director Paul Vickers.
