The duck house which became a symbol of MPs’ misuse of expenses has been sold for charity.

Former Tory MP Sir Peter Viggers sold the duck house for £1,700 and donated the money to Macmillan Cancer Support.

“We are really delighted that some good has come out of the whole expenses scandal and are grateful for the donation from Sir Peter,” a spokesperson for the charity said.

“This money is enough for us to provide a Macmillan nurse for two weeks.”

The five-foot duck house was sold to a Wolverhampton business for £1,700 – just £55 more than Sir Peter spent on expenses for it.
