MPs will vote on whether they accept expenses auditor Sir Thomas Legg’s findings, it has been reported.

Many backbenchers angry at Sir Thomas’ decision to impose retrospective limits on gardening, cleaning and other expenses claims from 2004 to 2008 are thought to be considering abstaining from the vote, despite all three party leaders calling for his rulings to be accepted in full.

Over 80 MPs are thought to have appealed against his initial findings. Ex-judge Sir Paul Kennedy is assessing these cases at present.

Yesterday it was announced by the Commons’ members estimates committee that Sir Thomas’ final report would be published on February 4th.

It also emerged that MPs will be given the opportunity to pass a resolution giving Sir Thomas the power to force MPs to pay back claims deemed unacceptable, the Mail reported.
