Two people charged with leaking BNP list

Two people have been charged with leaking a list containing details of the members of the British National party (BNP) last November.
The pair, a 27-year-old man and 30-year-old woman, were charged under section 55 of the Data Protection Act. They are due to appear in Nottingham magistrates court on September 1st and were living in Nottingham at the time of the offence.
Dyfed-Powys police conducted the joint investigation with the Information Commissioner’s Office.
“The arrests followed an investigation into a complaint received about the unauthorised release of the BNP party membership list,” a Dyfed-Powys police spokesperson confirmed.
Party leader Nick Griffin branded the leak “a disgraceful act of treachery” by former BNP members when the list was published.
He subsequently managed to secure an injunction from the High Court in Manchester against any firther publication of the list, citing concerns for the safety of the people mentioned.
The publication of the list, on Wikileaks, revealed thousands of far-right activists, including several clergymen, an actor, two solicitors, a number of teachers at various levels, a doctor, police officers, several government employees, serving soldiers and even members of the royal household.
Several of the people named were subsequently fired from their jobs.
