Party website hit by ‘cyber attack’

Both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have suffered serious computer problems on the morning of the European and local elections.

According to a report in The Register, which itself reported the story from the Dizzy Thinks blog, both parties’ websites were either rendered unusable or ran so slowly as to be effectively shut down.

According to a Conservative spokesman they were the subject of a “cyber attack” this morning shortly after polls opened, but their site was down for no more than an hour.

At the time of writing the Lib Dem website was still suffering problems which a party spokesman said was due to “unusually high levels of traffic”.

The Labour party, UKIP, BNP and Green party websites all appeared to be unaffected.
