Alan Johnson promises more ‘personalised’ NHS
Health secretary Alan Johnson has declared an end to the “one-size-fits-all” NHS.
Speaking at the Labour Party’s spring conference in Birmingham today, Mr Johnson highlighted plans for longer GP hours and a health service that, as a whole, provided a more personal service.
“The days of patients being the passive recipients of one-size-fits-all service are over”, the health secretary told party members.
He also repeated his plans for GP surgeries to open for longer hours in the evenings as well as on weekends.
Citing surgeries opened in Canary Wharf, Mr Johnson said it wasn’t “city hot shots” who booked early morning appointments but manual workers who would have lost money and potentially their jobs if they did not turn up to work.
Labour’s spring conference comes as all the major political parties begin to look towards the local elections in May.
