Brown seeks greater terror fight contribution from India

Gordon Brown has urged India to support international efforts combating funding for terrorist organisations.

The prime minister’s call for India to join the Financial Action Taskforce came as he arrived in New Delhi for the beginning of his official visit.

“In all countries in the world, we should have a very strong message going out against extremist ideologies which poison young people in particular and breed terrorists for the future,” Mr Brown said.

In scheduled talks with Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh he is expected to champion trade and business links between the two countries, just as he did during his inaugural prime ministerial visit to China.

While in China Mr Brown also pledged to support Beijing’s environmental ambitions, but the issue of human rights was conspicuous by its absence.
